KPOP Charts 2017, 6th Edition: My Top 10

It’s that time again! A new Top 10 KPOP Songs for you to check out.

·         Lonely by SISTAR

The summer girls of KPOP had say their farewell. After 7 years, one of the top girl groups of the industry had made their last comeback with the song “Lonely”. This track express emotions of the group regarding their disbandment, but as a breakup song, changing their usual dancing tracks to an emotional one.

·         Super Star and Untitle, 2014 by G Dragon

Like the past post, I had a lot of debates with two songs from the same artist, which created a subdivision on the same list. On this occasion, we have the leader of Big Bang, making his solo comeback with the mini album “Kwong Ji Young”, which is his real name. The project reflects his more intimate thoughts and feelings, and for that the selection of the title for the album.

a.       The title track for the album was changed at last minute because of the rough lyrics that could relate to the scandal involving one of Big Bang’s member, TOP. That is why the song “Super Star” was replaced with another song. For me is a great track with deep emotions and a great sound.

          

b.      The title track of the album is “Untitle, 2014”, a sorrowful song filled with sentiment.

·         You by Seul Ong ft Beenzino

Seul Ong released his self-produced album at the middle of June. The title of this projects is “You”, same as the title track. For this song, he collaborated with rapper and friend, Beenzino, which makes the track even better.

·         Yes I Am and Aze Gaga (Age Gag) by MAMAMOO

On June, the group released their fifth mini album, titled “Purple”.

a.       With the title track “Yes I Am”, they have received various awards on different music shows, and had topped musical charts locally and international.

b.      The second track they released from the album was “Aze Gag”, which is my favorite, with a catchy chorus and lighthearted lyrics.

·         As If It’s The Last Time by BlackPink

The YG girl group has made their comeback with the track “As If The Last Time”, which wanted to bring a little of cuteness to their “girl crush” image. They have been breaking multiple records since the release, and had topped charts on the local markets as well internationally.

·         I’m Good by Henry

Henry has released a couple of singles for the past months. For June, he released the track “I’m Good”, which can drive to his playful side with sweet vocals and a hip-hop vibe.

·         You, Clouds, Rain by Heize

This song is part of her third mini album but as a hidden track. At its release, “You, Clouds, Rain”, took by storm the charts, and stills places at top of them.

·         Summer Love by Crush

The track is part of a three songs project; “Summer Love”, “Outside”, and “Don’t Be Shy”. As it announces on the title, “Summer Love” talks about summer romance accompany with an incredible scenario for the MV and his amazing vocals.

·         Loves Me or Not by Taeil & Se Jeong

The BlockB main vocalist has released a collaboration track with gugunda’s member, Se Jeong. The track is a cute sweet song, filled with innocent love and great vocals from Taeil and the sweetness of Se Jeong.

·         Ambiguous by BTOB from Fight My Way OST

This song is part of the OST of the drama Fight My Way. The lyrics of the song goes perfect with the drama’s main characters and their relationship, and how they transform from best friends to realizing their romantic love for each other.

KPOP Charts 2017, 5th Edition: My Top 10

It's time for a new list!! Here are my top 10 songs for the month of May. Hope you enjoy it and check them out!!

·         Wonder If by Yong Jun Hyung ft Heize

For this project, the member of "Highlight", Jun Hyung composed both singles. "Too Much Love Kills Me" and "Wonder If" are part of his digital single project title as the last one. This last track was released on May 2nd, and is a slow/ R&B song, which is a love letter with Heize replaying to it, both artists wrote the lyrics for it.

·         Real Love by Henry

As part of the 2nd Edition of SM Station, Henry wants to find "Real Love". The song was written by Henry, and the MV gives us a retro look to the 90's and the cuteness of the couple.

·          Lullaby by Onew ft Rocoberry

The leader of the SM group, SHINee, Onew has team up with the indie band Rocoberry for the SM Station track, Lullaby. The band wrote the lyrics of the track, which is a conversation between lovers.

·         I Luv It by PSY

Since the release of PSY's new album "4x2=8", he took over the charts. He released two MV's the same day, "I Luv It" and "New Face", on the first one you could catch a glimpse of the Japanese singer Pikotaro, who rose to fame with the song PPAP. But what it was more intriguing and amazing, was the appearance of the top actor Lee Byung Hun, to which PSY has confessed begged him to appear on the MV. The album topped a great number of charts and the song "I Luv It" won several #1 on different broadcasts, even though he was banned on some stations.

·         Signal by TWICE

After two years active, TWICE has gained the recognition of the KPOP industry as the most influential new girl group. "Signal" is the first song produced by J.Y. Park for the group, which has a hip-hop vibe but all the bubbly of the group, the girls even told on interviews that their company President helped them with the choreography of the title track. The track has won on several music shows and they even top on Billboard's World Albums.

·         Suddenly by Roy Kim

Kim Sang Woo better known as Roy Kim was born on July 3 of 1993, he is a singer/songwriter who won Superstar K4. He made his debut on 2013 with the album “Love Love Love”, from which he won best newcomer at the 15^th Mnet Asian Music Awards and the 2014 Golden Disk Awards. His new album “Blossom” was released on May of this year, is about coming of age and adulthood, specially about love and relationships. The song “Suddenly” was written and composed by him, which talks about the pain after the breakup and overcoming from it.

 

·         Wine by Suran ft Changmo & 1+1=0 by Suran ft DEAN

Suran is a singer/songwriter and record producer who debuted as part of a duet called Lodia, in 2014. This year she has released her first min album titled “Walkin”. Previously she has released a couple of singles, and has collaboration with other artists. For this project, she has teamed up with various artist as featuring and production.

a.       “Wine” is a song produced by BTS’s Suga and the collaboration from rapper Changmo.

b.       “1+1=0” features one of the hottest hip-hop artist right now on South Korea, DEAN. 

 

·         Shangri-La by VIXX

The group has made their comeback with an incredible track that takes you in to that sound that distinguish them, with great moves on their choreography. This track, blends the west sound with the eastern, to drive the attention of the audience. But contrary to other songs from KPOP this one doesn't have that English hook, they emphasis on the eastern poetics.

·         Bling Bling by iKON

After almost two years, iKON has finally made their comeback with the singles "B Day" and "Bling Bling". Both tracks are part of the project "New Kids" which begins with one title "Begin". These songs take us back to what makes this group so good, their great hip-hop vibe and incredible energy. The track "Bling Bling" talks about what the group has accomplished and how they have raised on the industry.

·         Too Much by Loco ft DEAN & Da Da Da by Loco ft Hoody

The album by rapper Loco, Bleached, have incredible tracks. That is why it was so difficult for me to choose one from it. Instead I decided to show you the two tracks that I like the most from it.

a.       "Too Much" was produced by Gray, and the vocals from it are from singer/rapper DEAN.

b.       "Da Da Da" was wrote by both artist, Loco and Hoody. But on this track, we get to hear the vocals rather than the rapping from Loco.

KPOP Charts 2017, 4th Edition: My Top 10

It’s that time again, a new music from the past month of April. Hope all of you check these artists out and their music.

1.       I'll Be Yours by Girl's Day

The girl group formed by four members (Sojin, Minah, Yura and Hyeri) from Dream Tea Entertainment has made their comeback on March 27, but I wasn’t able to listen until early April. This album is part of the series Every Day, which was first released on July of 2011 and now would be the 5th Edition to it. The group was on hiatus after their last released, "Ring My Bell", back to July of 2015. For that time, the girls pursued their solo activities, like acting and variety appearance. "I'll Be Your" debuted on number 7 on Billboard World Albums, and had won #1 on various music shows.   

2.       Ninano by Minzy ft Flowsik

Gong Minji aka Minzy, made her debut as main dancer for one of the most popular girl groups on k-pop, 2NE1, on 2009. After the group had a long time of hiatus she decided to part ways from YG Entertainment and 2NE1 on April of 2016, to later go under Music Works on May of the same year. On January of 2017 she became part of the cast of the variety show "Sister's Slam Dunk" Season 2, along with entertainers Hong Jin Kyung and Kim Sook from the first season, and the new addition Kang Yewon, Han Chae Young, Hong Jin Young and Jeon Somi. Her first solo single was embarked with OST of the MBC Drama "Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People" on early 2017. Her solo debut was made thru the album Minzy Work_01_UNO, where she collaborated on writing the lyrics for all the songs. The song "Ninano" is a dance track, where you can have appreciated her incredible dancing skills on the MV of it.    

   

3.       Rumor by KARD

The group has finished their 3-step project to now make their official debut. With this track the group has paired up with LG and made a MV that can be seen on a wide screen smartphone. The group has stick it with their unique sound on the k-pop scene, kind of tropical feel with hip-hop and R&B, and great sensual choreo. The track "Rumor" talks about a heartbreak and all the rumors that had spread around a couple. 

4.       Palette by IU ft G Dragon

This coming of age album from IU is her fourth one from the singer actress, that has a 9-year career. The album "Palette" is her first full album since the 2013 "Modern Times". The song that is also titled "Palette", is filled with encouragement and also confidence, as a twenty-something on pop culture. While the song has the collaboration of rapper and leader of Big Bang, G Dragon, he is giving her advice to be herself and with that she can truly shine, talking as experience since he is older than her and also has an entertainment career. The song was co-written by IU, the lyrics are a work from IU and G Dragon. Her album has topped the Korean charts, and the song "Palette" has won a great amount of #1 on various music shows. Other songs of the album are "Can't Love You Anymore" ft HyukOh, and "Ending Scene" which has for leading man Kim Soo Hyun on the MV for it.

5.       She's a Baby by Zico

Woo Jiho, better known as Zico, is a rapper, producer, songwriter, and the leader of the boy group Block B. He is well known and respected on the Korean underground hip-hop as well on the mainstream field, he was active on the underground field since teenager and even went to Japan performing on the same scene. On 2011, he debuted as leader of Block B and also produced their mini album "Welcome to the Block", that had two songs banned as they were not fit for minors. On November of 2014 he released his solo single titled "Tough Cookie". He has collaborated with various artists, also producing other songs. His song "She's a Baby" topped 7 real time charts on the day of it release.    

6.       The Spring by Jung Eun Ji ft Harim

Jung Eun Ji has made her comeback with her second solo project titled "The Spring". The song is a ballad fill with nostalgia but on a way that can make you happy. This track is part her mini album "The Space". On an interview, she shared that her decision of that kind of music was based on her love for listening to radio and that type of songs, she wants people to keep her music on their memory and be able to cheer them up with it.  

7.       Sleep Tight by Kisum ft GilguBonggu

Kisum, born on January 20 of 1994 as Jo Hye Ryung, is a rapper known for competing on season 3 of the hip-hop battling program "Show Me the Money" on 2014, and on the first season of the female rappers battling program "Unpretty Rapstar" on 2015. She is under the label MAPPS Entertainment since 2013. Her projects include "Like It" (2014), "Musik"(2016), "The Sun, The Moon" (2017), a OST for the drama "Uncontrollably Fond" titled "Finding Differences" (2016), and a collaboration single with Cao Lu and Yerim titled "Spring Again" (2017). As featuring we have the duo GilguBonggu also known as GB9, they made their debut on 2013 with the song "Going Crazy". But they are better known for their performances on the OST for the drama "She Gets Married Thrice" with the song "I Hope It's Breeze", song that they wrote and compose. Thanks to this song they got recognition for their vocals and were the most searched name on the web at that time. The track "Sleep Tight" is part of the project "The Moon, The Sun".

8.       Because of You by Park Hyungsik for the OST of Strong Woman Do Bong Soo

Park Hyunsik is an idol turned actor, who is now focusing on that part of his career (acting). Member of the group ZE:A and ZE:A Five (the group hasn't disbanded even though there is a great amount of speculations), made his debut on Mnet's ZE:A's Debut Dairy along with the other members. On 2013 the sub unit ZE:A Five made their debut with the album "Voulez-Vous", the other four members of the sub unit are Siwan, Kevin, Minwoo and Dongjun. He has appeared and multiply dramas and won awards for his acting, some of his projects are "Was Whit My Family?", "The Heirs", "High Society", "Hwarang", and the latest "Strong Woman Doo Bong Soo" alongside actress Park Boo Young and actor Ji Soo.

9.       Blue Moon by Hyolyn ft Changmo

The song "Blue Moon" is a collaboration that has taken by storm the real-time charts, competing against IU and HyukOh's collab, released the same day. The track is a EDM dance that goes great with Hyolyn's emotional voice and Changmo's deep rapping skills. This track was produced by GroovyRoom, with the producing team composed by Park Gyujeong and Lee Hwimin.

10.   The Last Song by HA:TFELT, HaNa, Suram and Bohyung from the OST 4 of Cross Country

This track is part of variety show from channel MBC Every1, wish is a travel show with 3 singers, Yenny (HA:TFELT), Spica's Bohyung and Suran, as well actress Kang Ha Na. This woman will go on a road trip to encounter different musical experiences, writing songs inspired on the road. The first season took place on California, USA.
