KPOP Charts 2018, 1st Edition: My Top 10

It's the first Top 10 of the year!!! Wow, what a year it was, 2017. However, New Year means more new music, and hopefully, great music. This Top 10 was a difficult one, so many release on the New Year and great ones. Here are my favorites, hope you like it and leave a comment if you please.

1.      MAMAMOO: Paint Me
The vocal performance from Solar and Hwasa are just out of this World on this new single called "Paint Me". Moonbyul surprised us singing on the track, since we are used to her unbelievable rapping skills. Of course, Wheein doesn't stays back with her parts of the song. To our enjoyment, all the members have incredible vocal skills and don’t disappoint us with their work. Instead of their previous jazzy work, "Paint Me" is a ballad full of emotions and incredible tune.

2.      Amber X Luna [Station]: Lower
At the begging of the year, SM released their first SM Station track of the year with f(x) members, Amber and Luna. The house track is a powerful song about finding our place to be free. For this project, Amber has taken once more the position of director, being the MV of "All Mine" with the group f(x) her first with the members.

3.      Soyou: Grown up
We can always be satisfied with the great work of Soyou since her days with SISTAR. The new solist has started the year with the song "Grow Up", a gift to her fans. Yoo Jong Shin, singer / songwriter, and talks about departing from someone after learning more about herself produced the song. The track is a bonus one from her mini album "Re: Born".

4.      Sunmi: Heroine
Sunmi has made us go crazy once again with the great track "Heroine". Teddy, who previously produced “Gashina”, her latest successful project, produced this song. The bass is the key attraction of the melody of this song, and the lyrics are just great for what Sunmi has shown us among her career. She has shown us her unconventional side, which has a positive effect on her music career and projects.

5.      Davichi: Days Without Yoou
The ballad duo is celebrating their 10 year anniversary with the new studio album "&10". The MV of their track has a movie like vibe and has Wanna One's Kang Daniel as the main character. This song talks about the emptiness that one felt after a break up. "Days Without You" is full of emotions, and the orchestral melody goes great with their voices. Lee Haeri and Kang Minkyung had made a statement as the ultimate ballad duo on the kpop scene.

6.      Jonghyun: Shinin'
On January 23 we got the surprise of Jonghyun's second and last LP release, "Poet|Artist". The album is a posthumous gift to fans, and it takes us through his career with similar melodies of previous projects with SHINee and his poetic reflection through his lyrics. The mix of sentiment and dance pop is the best way for Jonghyun say good-bye to his fans, and leave a mark on the kpop industry. The MV on "Shinin'" was filmed before his dead that shows his dance moves to a trap song mixed with tropical vibes.

7.      Suzy: I'm In Love With Someone Else
Suzy made a pre-release with the track "I'm In Love With Someone Else" on January 22. The song topped the real time charts on South Korea, making it the second pre-release of the artist to do so, with the song "Pretend" the first one. Armadillo, a JYP producer/songwriter, wrote both tracks. The track is part of her second album, "Faces of Love", which would be her first project after MissA made official their disbandment. The song talks about a break up and the reason about been her falling for another person.

8.      iKON: Love Scenario
After almost two years, iKON has made their proper comeback with the album "Return", which has 12 songs. The title track for their project is "Love Scenario", which is different from their usual party and fun vibe. The song is mellow break up son but an upbeat sound that goes great with the choreography. The MV of the song show us the great dance formation of the group, along with their incredible style. Besides "Love Scenario", the group is promoting the track "Beautiful", which can be placed as a traditional pop song.

9.      Red Velvet: Bad Boy
Red Velvet has made their comeback with the track "Bad Boy", after their success with Peek-A-Boo" and the album "Perfect Velvet" the past November. For the begging of the year the group has re-release their previous album with three new tracks and the new title "The Perfect Red Velvet". "Bad Boy" is a song with a groovy strong bass that talks about being attracted to a bad boy. The girls use a more mature style for this project, along with a "sexy" choreography.

10.  BoA: Nega Dola
The ultimate "Kpop Queen" has made her comeback with the track "Nega Dola" The track talks about the hard times of a girl with an obsessive guy, the sound of it is more like hip-hop with Latin vibes. BoA is an all-around artist, from acting in Hollywood projects, been the first Korean to jump to the Japanese market, and owning stocks from SM Company, which made her part of the board since 2014 as a Creative Director.

This is all for now people, I hope you all like it and comeback next time. Keep on listening to new music from around the globe; it's always good to learn about other cultures through music. 'Till later, and thank you guys!!! ^.~

KPOP Charts 2017: The Best 20 of 2017

Like always, picking the best songs of the year is hard, too many great tracks. I decided to take 20 of all the previews post I made through the year, hope you like it and came back later for more great choices.

1.      Hyolyn ft Changmo: Blue Moon

The song "Blue Moon" is a collaboration that has taken by storm the real-time charts, competing against IU and HyukOh's collab, released the same day. The track is a EDM dance that goes great with Hyolyn's emotional voice and Changmo's deep rapping skills. This track was produced by GroovyRoom, with the producing team composed by Park Gyujeong and Lee Hwimin.

2.      Suran ft Dean: 1+1=0

Suran is a singer/songwriter and record producer who debuted as part of a duet called Lodia, in 2014. This year she has released her first min album titled “Walkin”. Previously she has released a couple of singles, and has collaboration with other artists. For this project, she has teamed up with various artist as featuring and production.

3.      Sistar: Lonely

The summer girls of KPOP had say their farewell. After 7 years, one of the top girl groups of the industry had made their last comeback with the song “Lonely”. This track express emotions of the group regarding their disbandment, but as a breakup song, changing their usual dancing tracks to an emotional one.

4.      G Dragon: Superstar

Like the past post, I had a lot of debates with two songs from the same artist, which created a subdivision on the same list. On this occasion, we have the leader of Big Bang, making his solo comeback with the mini album “Kwong Ji Young”, which is his real name. The project reflects his more intimate thoughts and feelings, and for that the selection of the title for the album. The title track for the album was changed at last minute because of the rough lyrics that could relate to the scandal involving one of Big Bang’s member, TOP. That is why the song “Super Star” was replaced with another song. For me is a great track with deep emotions and a great sound.

5.      Mamamoo: Aze Gaga (Age Gag)

On June, the group released their fifth mini album, titled “Purple”.
The second track they released from the album was “Aze Gag”, which is my favorite, with a catchy chorus and lighthearted lyrics.

6.      BlackPink: As If It's The Last Time

The YG girl group has made their comeback with the track “As If The Last Time”, which wanted to bring a little of cuteness to their “girl crush” image. They have been breaking multiple records since the release, and had topped charts on the local markets as well internationally.

7.      EXO: KoKoPop

Like always, EXO’s comeback is one that the fan are constantly waiting for. For this project, they decided to go for a reggae sound, which came out incredible for all of them. The song "KoKoPop", like all their tracks, came out with an outstanding choreography, that captivates the fans and want to be emulate by the males. The song reached top positions on the Billboard World Digital Song, the ITunes Worldwide Albums, and the local music charts.

8.      Taeyang: Wake Me Up

Big Bang's main vocalist has made his solo comeback after his international success three years ago with "Eyes, Nose, Lips". "White Night" is the artist third solo album, and it seems that it's going to be a success too. For this project the single tracks is "Darling", which it's a breakup song, and the other song for promotions is "Wake Me Up". The second track talks about true love, the one that he don't want to wake up from. A lot of rumors regarding his relationship with actress Min Hyo Ri surfaced because of the song "Darling", but on an interview he stated that "I love her a lot, and is inevitable to be influenced by her, she is my biggest muse", whit this the rumors of their breakup shut down. Don't you think he is so romantic?

9.      Sunmi: Gashina

After the disbandment of Wonder Girl's on January of this year, followed by her signing with another label (MakeUs Entertainment) on the end of February, Sunmi has made her comeback as a solo artist. "Gashina" is not the first solo project from her, when she was under JYP Entertainment she made her solo debut with the single "24 Hours", which ranked number 1 on digital media on August of 2013. Now, Sunmi has make her comeback with a new label and it's all in for a new quirky but sensual image. On the MV for "Gashina", you can see her dancing around discovering herself and making her way into this new phase.

10.  Red Velvet: Red Flavor

I am actually not a fan of Red Velvet, but I have to admit of liking three of their songs. "Ice Cream", with that creepy sound at the begging of the song, "Dumb, Dumb, Dumb", with that incredible catchy chorus, and now "Red Flavor", which also has a catchy beat. At the end of the year they made a comeback with the track "Peek-A-Boo", but "Red Flavor" got me.

11.  BTS: MicDrop

Even though this track is part of the group's last album, "Love Yourself: Her", the group made a remix with American DJ Steve Aoki, which toped to No. 1 on iTunes just right after the release. The genius collaboration comes after the group's success at the US after winning a Billboard this year and making their first performance at the "American Music Awards". Thanks to these, the group made various appearance on US talk shows and interviews with different media.

12.  2NE1: Goodbye

One of the top girl groups in the music industry in South Korea announced las November that they would disband. 2NE1 already had the songs for their album and recorded one song that is why the leader of the group along with the other two remaining members decided to say "Goodbye" to their fans with this song. The lyrics where originally written when member Minzy left the group on March of last year, but the sentiment for both situations where similar. The group release the MV on January 20 of this year, and the song represents the genuine feelings of the leader CL, since she was the one that wrote the lyrics for it. Till next time 2NE1, and for we always a Blackjack (the name of the group's fan).

13.  TWICE: Signal

After two years active, TWICE has gained the recognition of the KPOP industry as the most influential new girl group. "Signal" is the first song produced by J.Y. Park for the group, which has a hip-hop vibe but all the bubbly of the group, the girls even told on interviews that their company President helped them with the choreography of the title track. The track won #1 on several music shows and they even topped on Billboard's World Albums.

14.  Girl's Day: I'll Be Yours

The girl group formed by four members (Sojin, Minah, Yura and Hyeri) from Dream Tea Entertainment has made their comeback on March 27, but I wasn’t able to listen until early April. This album is part of the series Every Day, which was released on July of 2011 and now would be the 5th Edition to it. The group was on hiatus after their last released, "Ring My Bell", back to July of 2015. For that time, the girls pursued their solo activities, like acting and variety appearance. "I'll Be Your" debuted on number 7 on Billboard World Albums, and had won #1 on various music shows.

15.  IU ft G Dragon: Palette

This coming of age album from IU is her fourth one from the singer/actress, which has a 9-year career. The album "Palette" is her first full album since the 2013 "Modern Times". The song that is also titled "Palette", is filled with encouragement and confidence, as a twenty-something on pop culture. While the song has the collaboration of rapper and leader of Big Bang, G Dragon, he is giving her advice to be herself and with that she can truly shine, talking as experience since he is older than her and also has an entertainment career. The song was co-written by IU, the lyrics are a work from IU and G Dragon. Her album has topped the Korean charts, and the song "Palette" has won a great amount of #1 on various music shows. Other songs of the album are "Can't Love You Anymore" ft HyukOh, and "Ending Scene" which has for leading man Kim Soo Hyun on the MV for it.

16.  Girls' Generation: All Night

It's the 10th Anniversary of the "Ultimate Girl Group", Girls' Generation. It has been 1o years since their great debut single "Into The New World", and the album "Holiday Night", marks their comeback since 2015. This new album has 10 songs that include the two promotion tracks "Holiday" and "All Night". The song "Holiday" it is more like their usually bubbly tracks, as for "All Night" you can hear the presence of each member on an EDM kind of song, and it's more like a party track. Later on the year it was release that tree members were going to leave the company and start a new path on their career. Seohyun, Tiffany, and Sooyoung left SM Entertainment on October of 2017.

17.  BTOB for Fight My Way OST: Ambiguous

This song is part of the OST of the drama Fight My Way. The lyrics of the song goes perfect with the main characters of the drama and their relationship, and how they transform from best friends to realizing their romantic love for each other.

18.  Heize ft Han SooJi for Goblin OST: Round and Round

This song is part of the OST of the drama "Goblin", specially the intro for the drama. The song "Round and Round" wasn’t part of the OST but it was later added because of the great response of the audience. When released there was a little controversy with the complete song, the beginning of it, which is the part that airs with the drama, was performed by SooJi and the remaining of the song by the singer Heize. For the audience this wasn’t what they expected and even the two singers throw a little dirt to each other. At the end, the production apologized to both singers and the audience for their action, and hoped for understanding. I really don’t care about the controversy, I just love every song of the drama and specially this one is one of my favorites.

19.  Jonghyun: Lonely

After the sudden death of the SHINee main vocalist, Jonghyun, his track has "Lonely" has topped the charts in South Korea and internationally. This song was release at the beginning of 2017, and was part of his second compilation album "The Collection: Story Op. 2". The album contained 10 tracks, written and composed by him. He admitted that the track "Lonely" was written with Taeyeon on mind; she was featuring on it and was their second duet after the SM The Ballad "Breath". Fans and the media are still surprise about the artist committing suicide this past December, after struggling with severe depression.

20.  Ikon: Bling Bling

After almost two years, iKON finally made their comeback with the singles "B Day" and "Bling Bling". Both tracks where part of the project "New Kids" which started with one title "Begin". These songs take us back to what makes this group so good, their great hip-hop vibe and incredible energy. The track "Bling Bling" talks about what the group has accomplished and how they have raised on the industry.

That is for now, hope you had a good 2017 and have a great 2018. Thanks for the support and continue to come back for more KPOP and other great subjects that I expose on my blog. Stay healthy and happy new year!!! (((all the rights of the MVs to their respected owners))

KPOP Charts 2017, 12th Edition: My Top 10

For the last month of the year I had a tough time, there were not too much good songs out. That is why I had put my foot down the following ones. Don't get me wrong, they are good but not my favorites. Hope you like the post and share it.

1.      GOT7: Teenager

On December the group released a repackage edition of the album "7 for 7", from which the MV of "Teenager" was out. All the tracks of the album are the same as before, with the only addition of the MV release mentioned before. For this track, the group made a performance MV, which was well produced and outstanding choreographed.

2.      TWICE: Heart Shaker

The group released a new repackage album title "Merry & Happy". The title track for the album was "Heart Shaker", and upbeat jam, perfect for the holiday season. The track has a xylophone riff with cants and easy hooks. Through promotions, the girl group performed the songs "Heart Shaker" and "Merry & Happy".

3.      Soyou ft. Geeks: The Night

Soyou has flourished unto her solo career this past year, mainly releasing mellow songs and ballads. For this track, she has release an old hip-hop beat, suiting great with her raspy voice on a jazz way. The song it's a collaboration with the duo Geeks, which matches great with their flow. The song talks about a love story, and it's accompany with a MV full girl charms before a date night.

4.      Heize for Prison Playbook OST: Would Be Better

"Prison Playbook" is a South Korean tvN drama directed by Shi Won Ho, who directed the "Reply" series. For this project, the story evolves on prison where a popular baseball player has become an inmate. The drama is a black comedy, and has the appearance of previous cast members of the "Reply" series. On December 14, was release the part 5 of the OST title “Would Be Better" performed by Heize. She wrote the track, and the composition was alongside DAVII.

5.      Jonghyun ft Taeyeon: Lonely

The track "Lonely" was released on April of 2017, but after the main vocalist of the SM Entertainment group SHINeen decided to end his life after a severe depression this past December, it has topped the charts in South Korea and internationally. This song was release was part of his second compilation album "The Collection: Story Op. 2". The album contained 10 tracks, written and composed by him. He admitted that the track "Lonely" was written with Taeyeon on mind; she was featuring on it and was their second duet after the SM The Ballad "Breath". The entertainment industry still mourns the death of this talented young artist; he was only 27 years old.

6.      Younha ft pH-1: Hello

The Korean singer Younha, has made a release after 4 years, she had a great amount of singles and collaborations, but no a proper album release. Her fifth album "RescuE" has a great group of producers like GroovyRoom, pH-1, and Chancellor. This album has 11 tracks, from which I like "Hello", featuring pH-1. The song was release before the whole album, which it has a quiet pop tune with the great interference of pH-1, that flows amazing with the tune.

7.      B.A.P.: Hands Up

The electronic hip-hop track with a strong trap beat titled "Hands Up" is the new release of the group B.A.P. This track is part of another seven from the album "EGO". The message behind the track is empowering people to break the prejudice and look outside of the box.

8.      EXO: Universe

The group released their holiday special titled "Universe- Winter Special, 2017", which has become a tradition of the group. The title track of the album is "Universe", a powerful ballad arranged perfectly with each member's talented voice and style. The lyrics of the song are about a break up and not giving up.

9.      Meng Jia & Jackson Wang: MOOD

Ok, I know the song is in Chinese, but the two artists made their career in South Korea, so give me a break. After the rapper of MissA decided to venture on a solo career, she signed with BANANA Entertainment, and stayed in China. Jackson has made a great solo release in China, and has his own team there called "Team Wang". It's only natural for this JYP artists to reunite for a great hip-hop style song that talks about success on work but still having freedom following does goals.

10.  SM Town: Dear My Family

On December 29, the SM Project Station 2 released a collaboration with various SM Entertainment artists from the "SM Town Live Tour V in Japan" this last August. The track was release like a tribute to the late artist Jonghyun, who committed suicide this past December. The track is an arrangement from a 2001 R&B ballad. At the MV you can see various images of Jonghyun during the tour and a message at the end that said; "Jonghyun, who loved music more that anyone, who enjoyed performing onstage, and who loved communicating with fans through music, is the greatest artist. We will always remember him".

This past December was a sad month for the KPOP industry and the followers of it. Let's keep cheering the artist and respecting their life decisions too. Remember, they are human beings; they suffer and feel like anyone else. Thanks for reading, and keep coming back!!
