On The Charts: Best of 2016, My Top 20 Kpop Songs

Last year brought us incredible music, and I hope that this year will be even better. This are the songs that I love from 2016, hope you guys check them out and tell me what you think.

1. Blood, Sweat and Tears by BTS: My favorite song from last year was the title track of the album WINGS by the Bangtanga Boys a.k.a. BTS. The group is meets evil with this new album, from which the title track top charts for weeks on multiple domestic and world charts. Their single track, "Blood, Sweat and Tears" won six first place from different music shows, and was number one on the Billboard US World Albums.

2. Oh Na Na by KARD: DSP Media released the coed group composed by four members, two guys, BM and J.Seph and two girls, Jeon Ji Woo and Jeon So Min, and a hidden member as a featuring. For this song we have hidden member Heo Young Ji, who was the last addition to the late girl group KARA. Interesting facts about the group is that So Min was a member of the girl group April and Matthew Kim a.k.a BM was a KPOP Star contestant. The group has gain a great amount of attention with their Hip Hop/Caribbean sound and their "risky" choreography with their single "Oh NaNa", which is appealing to international fans, and their video has more than 2 million views on YouTube. The group will be releasing three single projects before their official debut, which is scheduled for March 2017. I'm looking forward to what they can bring to the kpop scene.

3.Cheer Up by TWICE: 2016 was amazing for this girls, they had great success with the song "Cheer Up", and later with "TT". But let me tell you, I had this song on repeat so many times that it was mandatory for me to learn the dance. For me these girls can be the new Girls' Generation, they can sing and dance very good. This song is from their second album, and they won first place on various music shows.

4. Toy by BlockB: BlockB's single from their last, album "Blooming Period", talks about a guy that just wanna be with these girl even thought she might play with him, which he would be fine with because he can be her toy. (I hope I didn't messed up the meaning of the song >.<)

5. Into You by Kolaj ft. Eric Nam: Into You is actually a song from an indie dance-pop duo from the US, but Eric Nam is a well known singer and entertainer in South Korea. The song was release on June 9 on iTunes, SoundCloud and Spotify. Nam co-produced and wrote the lyrics for this song, that is one of the main reasons for me to decided to put it on the list, and because I had it almost all the time on repeat.

6. Dancing King by EXO x Yoo Jae Suk: This song can really get you, is a dance track and the choreography is really good. The collaboration for this song came after the show "Infinite Challenge" in which Yoo Jae Suk is part of. Thanks to one of the show members, Yoo Jae Suk got his chance to be part of EXO on a special performance for one of their concerts in Thailand. This productions was part of SM Entertainment new division SM Station, which it's main target is to create collaborations with other artists outside of the SM label. The audience can watch the process of this project thru one episode of the show. The song was number 2 on Gaon's Digital Chart and number 1 on Gaon's Download Chart on their release on September 17.

7.For You by Baekhyun, Chen and Xiumin (EXO): This song is part of the drama from SBS, "Scarlet Heart Ryo: Moon Lovers". The song is performed by the vocalists from the kpop group EXO, been Baekhyun one of the leads of the drama. This drama is set on the Goryeo Dynasty, after Ko Ha Jin is transported during an eclipse of the sun to the body of Hae Soo, the cousin of the wife of the 8th Prince Wang Wook. A love triangle with Hae Soo, Wook and the 4th Prince Wang So is one of the main themes the drama, that also involves action, rivalry, politics and the fight for the throne.

8. Whistle by Black Pink: The second single of the rookie group, "Whistle" was placed 2nd on the Billboard's World Digital Songs. Now the group is part of the seventh artist that has hit the No. 1 spot on the list, with fellow label mates PSY, Big Bang, 2NE1, CL, G-Dragon, Taeyang, and the boy groups EXO and BTS. The group is only the third South Korean act to take the first two positions, alongside PSY and Big Bang. The girls are now known as a "monster rookie group", for their amazing achievements on their debut year.

9. Monster by EXO: The groups third album, Ex'Act, was released on June 9, 2016 in both Korean and Mandarin versions. It was the most pre-sale album of all times in Korea, with sales surpassing the 660,000. The album also broke the record for the highest first week sales of a Korean, selling 522,372 copies in one week. Ex'Act's second title track, "Monster", became Exo's first number one on Billboard World Digital Songs Chart, which stayed for 2 weeks at that position.

10. Decalcomanie by MAMAMOO: MAMAMOO is one of those groups that you can't let slide from your eye. They are not the usual girl group, their vocals are out of this World, and with a jazz touch which can drive a great amount of attention. The vocals of the group are outstanding, as well for the rapping.

11. Promise (I'll be) by 2PM: The group latest album wanted to get out of the label of beastly idol, and go with a more mature side. This album was produced by the very own 2PM, and Taecyeon was the one who did the production for the title track. The group collaborated on the writing of the lyrics and some compositions. Some of the lyrics are kind of racy, but for the western fans it is not that big of a deal. The sad news about this 6th studio album is that it's the last one of the group before they enlist to the mandatory military service this year(((NOOOOOOOO T.T))).

12. You Are My Everything by Gummy: From the "Descendants of the Sun" OST, Gummy has performed an incredible song with lyrics that fill up your heart. Even thought I love every single song of the OST, this song has made the charts on the top spots. Until now Gummy has been declare as the Queen of OST, since her last collaboration for the OST of the drama "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" was also a great success.

13. Paradise by Hyolyn: Hyolyn made her solo comeback with her usual sexy attitude, but this time the music is a little more dance for us. Sistar's main vocalist will charm you with her dancing skills and incredible vocals, and you definitely will go to "Paradise" with this great piece.

14. Wonder Girls: Why So Lonely: The well know group made their comeback last year after their hiatus since 2013, when Sunye got married and formed her family. After that the group came back with four members, (Yubin, Sunmi, Yeeun and Hyerim) while Sunhee is now focused on acting. Their comeback song last year was "I Feel You" with a retro style. With this song they kept that retro feeling, with some reggae beat. This song workout good with the group, since they have been making the transition from dance group to a band.

15. Hard Carry by GOT7: "Flight Log: Turbulence" is the second studio album from the group, and the song "Hard Carry" is the title track for it. The album is part of a series, been "Flight Log: Departure" the first album from it. The song and the choreography is really good, and with each album the fans can see how the group is maturing on their music. Till this day the group has won first place 3 times on music shows.

16. Save me by BTS: When you have someone you love and just don’t want them to go away, the only thing you want is for them to take your hand and be save. That is what BTS is saying with this song. Believe me, I wouldn’t think twice to extend my hand and save all the members that I can >.<

17. Hopeful Sky by Jung Eun Ji: The APink Member made her solo debut with a ballad album. On this song Eun Ji is recalling her childhood and where she came from, never forgetting all the beautiful seating of her hometown and all the dreams that she lodged. This song was on top of the charts for several weeks... NICE WORK EUN JI!!!

18. Body by Mino: Before he got into YG Entertainment, Mino was part of the group BoM but disbanded two years later. He then auditioned for YG and got in, soon after he was set to be part of "WIN: Who is Next". Mino was set as leader for the Team A at the reality/survival show, but because he got injured and couldn't participate with the group on a mission, Yang Hyun Suk decided to name Seung Yoon the leader of the group. The group won the competition and became WINNER. With their album release we got a glimpse of Mino as a solo act with the song "I'm Him", which I gotta say it's one of my favorite songs of the album. He was a contestant on "Show Me the Money Season 4" on which he was runner-up, on the beginning of the year WINNER released their second album "EXIT: E" for which he did a duet track with Taehyun. With his solo debut we can see a more mature side of him, which it can be a little sensual for the audience(((for me, super sexy ♥.♥))).

19. FXXIT by Big Bang: One of the most popular KPOP group made their comeback with the MADE Full Album. Big Bang has added three songs to their previously MADE Project, and they had announced that it's their last work as a group since T.O.P. is going to enlist for his mandatory service next February. The song "FXXIT" is one of their singles, along with "Last Dance", both songs have their respected music videos. For promotions the group decided to appear in three variety shows, "Infinite Challenge", "Radio Star", and "Weekly idol', the decision was made by the group since they wanted the fans to have a great memory of them as a whole, and also because they haven't appeared on the last two as a group.

20. Can You Hear My Heart by Epik High ft Lee Hi: This song was part of the OST of drama "Scarlet Heart Ryeo: Moon Lovers". You wouldn’t thought about a hip-hop fusion song for a historical drama, but remember that the female lead traveled through time and ended up on that era, so it's ok. Aside from that, the song is great, Lee Hi has an incredible talent and we are able to hear the first OST from Epik High is awesome. The song is a confession, how you can't get that person out of your heart, which it's exactly what the male lead is going thru on the drama. You guys have to check this song out!!

Well, this is all I have to say for last years great music. I hope this new year bring us more amazing tracks for me to share with you. Hope you guys keep on coming back for more. Like and share! ^.~

The song "FXXIT" is one of their singles, along with "Last Dance", both songs have their respected music videos. 2.       Oh Na Na by KARD:

For this song we have hidden member Heo Young Ji, who was the last addition to the late girl group KARA. 3.       Don’t Speak by Far East Movement ft Tiffany and King Chain:

Even though Far East Movement released their album last month, the Music Video for "Don’t Speak" featuring Girls' Generation's Tiffany was out this month. Like I said on my previous post, Far East Movement is an Asian-American hip hop/electronic group, for their latest project they had come to South Korea. They had gathered a great number of artists in the music industry, and the Korean fans has their attention on them.

4.       Stay With Me by Punch and Chanyeol for Goblin OST Part 1:

Oh Yess! "Goblin" finally is here!!! And with a great drama, a great OST. The first song has one of the artist on a lot of great soundtracks, Punch, and EXO's Chanyeol. For the past couple of months Chanyeol has impress a lot of fans with his singing skills apart from his skills on rapping, and been able to hear him on the track "Stay With Me" is a good experience. "Goblin" is a rom-com drama, that I'm positive you would like.

5.       Bermuda Triangle by Zico ft Dean and Crush:

Among KPOP Idols, Zico has been phrased a lot by Hip Hop artists and producer, and that because of his great producing/writing/composing skills. Aside from being one of the members of the KPOP group Block B, Zico has successfully ventured on his solo career. He also was part of the Hip Hop Survival Show, Show Me The Money 4, as one of the producers alongside Paloalto from Hi-Lite Records. For his new project he has collaborated with Hip-Hop artist DEAN and Crush, two of the rising stars of that field.

6.       By Your Side by Hoody ft Jinbo:

Hoody is a singer/songwriter under the independent record label AOMG. She was part of a female underground Hip-Hop crew and in 2015 sign with AOMG, which made her the first female of the company.  The song "By Your Side" is an R&B track, which talks about that love that makes you forget about everything else that is happening around you.

7.       Cause You're My Star by A Pink:

As the Holiday Season begun the girl group, A Pink welcomed with a special Christmas album with the song "Cause You're My Star". In the track the girls talk about her wanting the boy she likes to be her star. The album is like a gift for their fans, and it keeps the cute concept they since the beginning of their career.

8.       Lie by Mad Clown ft Lee Hae Ri

This song talks about the good and the bad of relationships, a topic that a lot of people can relate to. The collaboration with Davichi's member Lee Hae Ri is great, since her vocals are a great addition to Mad Clown's incredible rapping skills. The MV for "Lie" is an incredible cinematographic project, that reflects the lyrics of the track.

9.       OMG by Double K ft Seo In Guk & Dok2

The rapper Double K has decided to make collaborations with various artists for his new project, and one of them is singer/actor Seo In Guk. The collaboration "OMG" is an upbeat song with a tropical sound with the addition of the rapping skills from Dok2, making the finishing touch.

10.   Last Dance by Big Bang

"Last Dance" is the second track that Big Bang has performed for their comeback with the MADE Full Album promotions. Some fans can identify this song as a way to say goodbye to member T.O.P., since he's going to start his military service on February of next year.
