Beyond the Stage: My Top 10 Idol/Actors

Dear readers, welcome back!! On the next post I will let you know more about idols/actors. This list combines singers or group members that had started their career as singers and had found great success as actors, some leaving the music scenarios and others jogle with both entertainment paths. The artists that I will mention are some of my favorites or are the most known on the industry. Let me warn you, there are a lots of idols/actors, but if I listed them all I would lost your interest after the number 10. That is why I decided to list My Top 10 Idols/Actors, hope you guys like it and share it ^.^



1. Suzy- Bae Su Ji: October 10, 1994.
She made her singing debut on July 2010 with the group Miss A, which has 4 members (Fei, Jia, and Min). Later she made her acting debut on the singing drama "Dream High" on January of 2011, the drama kept their top ratings on their time slot. This drama had a great number of idols/actors, including fellow labelmates Taecyeon and WooYoung from 2PM, Tara's EunJung, IU, and of course the incredible lead was Kim Soo Hyun, which now is known as the hot alien from "My Love From Another Star". On October of 2011 she was part of the cast of girls from kpop groups that were going to experience the country life on the second season of the show Invincible Youth on KBS2. Her movie debut was with the hit movie "Architecture 101" on March of 2012, which made her well known on the acting field. For this movie she won Best New Movie Actress on the 48th Baeksang Arts Awards, Hot Female Movie Star on the 6th Mnet 20's Choice Awards, and Popular Star on the 33rd Blue Dragon Film Awards. 2012 was her year, gallardoning her with the rookie award on 4 entertainment fields, singing, acting on a drama, acting on a movie, and on the variety scene, which made her the first female entertainer to achieve such recognition. She is known as the CF Queen, since she has a great amount of endorsements since early on her career. On March of 2015 was confirmed that she was on a relationship with the actor and Hallyu Star, Lee Min Ho. On May of 2016 it was announced that Jia was leaving Miss A and JYP Entertainment, and the group will be focused on solo activities. This summer is going to be the anticipated drama comeback from Suzy, after her last one on 2013, "Gu Family Book", alongside Lee Seung Gi. "Uncontrollably Fond" is a romance/comedy drama with Suzy as a  documentary PD and Kim Woo Bin as an idol/actor, they were on a relationship when younger and ended by complicated circumstances but then find each other after the years.

2. Kim Hyun Joong: June 6, 1986.
Member of the kpop group SS501 since 2005 until 2010, then he made his solo debut with Break Down on 2011. He was part of the reality/variety show "We Got Married" since May 2008 until December 2008 with singer Hwangbo, it was the first noona couple and got the name "Lettuce Couple". On 2008 Kim started on his first drama "Boys Over Flowers", as one of the F4 alongside Lee Minho, Kim Bum, Kim Joon, and the female leads Ku Hye Sun and Kim So Eun. That role made him the winner for Best Actor Award at the Seoul International Drama Awards 2009 and the Popularity Award at the 45th Baeksang Arts Awards. Later Hyun Joong played the lead role on the Korean adaptation of the Japanese manga "Started With a Kiss", which was entitled "Playful Kiss", with female lead Jung So Min. After the good response of the audience there was a special edition series release via a YouTube channel. When he ended the promotions for "Playful Kiss", Hyun Joong was set to promote his singing career with Japanese singles "Kiss, Kiss" and "Lucky Guy" for early 2012. It was on July 2012 that he made his drama comeback with "City Conquest", which was filmed on Japan. The drama was failed to air on Korea because of its violence and low filming standards, according to the major companies of the country. On April of 2013 he came back to the variety world with the traveling program "Barefooted Friends" along side Kang Ho Dong and other members, he was on the show until October 2013 leaving it because of schedule conflicts. The last drama that Hyun Joong started on was "Inspiring Generation" on 2014, the story of the drama was based on the Shanghai of the 1930's while there were Korean independence fighters on the city. It was a drama that unveiled Korea's, China's, and Japan's shared history, along with the violence, love, and friendship of that time. Kim Hyun Joong is now serving his mandatory military service, and also facing a lot of court time with his domestic violence case and mental damage from former girlfriend, later his contra demand on defamation, and now he is the father of the former girlfriend child. All this mess and scandals started on August of 2014, nine months before his enlistment. The custody battle and child support agreement hasn’t come to the public yet.

3. Yoon Eun Hye: Baby V.O.X.: October 3,1984.
Better known as an actress, Yoon Eun Hye started her career as a  girl group member on the group Baby V.O.X. since 1999 until 2005. The group first singles "Get Up" and "Killer" made it to number one and catapulted the group to success. It was on 2005 that the group disbanded, when her contract and of another member ended. Her acting career started on 2006 under the agency Eight Peak, and the drama was an adaptation of the manhwa Goong. The major role on "The Princess Hour" made her well known around Korea and Asia, giving her a steady start on her acting career. For her next project Eun Hye started on "The Vineyard Man", even though the drama didn’t have the among of ratings expected, she won Best New Actress in the 2006 KBS Drama Award and Best Actress at 2006 Grimae Awards. On 2007 she was the lead for the drama "The First Shop of Coffee Prince" alongside Gong Yoo. With the drama success she was the highest paid actress, and made it to the A list star, as the youngest actress. For the drama Eun Hye won Top Excellence Award, Actress on the 2007 MBC Drama Awards, Outstanding Actress Award on the 2007 Star News Chief Producer's Choice Acting Awards, and Best Actress in TV 44th Baeksang Arts Awards (2008). After the success of "Coffee Prince", Eun Hye made her comeback with the 2009 drama "My Fair Lady". At the beginning of airing she got a lot of harsh comments regarding her acting skills, stating that her acting was regressing. On 2011 she made it to the big screen with the movie "My Black Mini Dress", and she also made her drama comeback with "Lie To Me". Later on she was the lead for the drama "Missing You" alongside Park Yoochun and Yoo Seung Ho. She won Popularity Award and Hallyu Star Award on the 2012 MBC Drama Awards thanks to "Missing You". Her lasts works are the drama "Marry Him if You Dare" on 2013, the movie "Chronicles of a Blood Merchant" on 2014, and the Chinese-Korean film "After Love".

4. Yoochun: Park Yoochun, "Micky": June 4,1986.
Member of TVXQ since 2003 until 2010, now member of JYJ since 2010 with the other two members Jaejoong and Junsu. Since they leave SM Entertainment on bad terms it was difficult for them to perform on TV shows and promote their music. His first lead role as an actor was on the period drama "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" with young actors Song Joong Ki, Yoo Ah-in, and the female lead Park Min Young. The drama was a turning point on these young actors careers, since the success among the nation was eminent. Thanks to the drama Yoochun received Rookie of the Year Award, Netizen Award, and Best Couple Award at the 2010 KBS Drama Awards ceremony. He also won Best Newcomer Award and Most Popular Actor in a TV Drama at the 47th Baeksang Arts Awards, and for the 6th Seoul International Drama Award he won Best Actor and Most Popular Asian Actor. In 2011 he appeared on the drama "Miss Replay" as the male lead, for which he won Best Newcomer on the 2011 MBC Awards. For his next work he was going to portrait a Joseon era prince that travels 300 years to the present, "Rooftop Prince" was a comedy drama with actress Han Ji Min. Thanks to that drama he won again Most Popular Actor in TV Drama at the 48th  Baeksang Arts Awards. Then he was the male lead for the melodrama "Missing You", alongside Yoon Eun Hye. For this drama he won Excellence Actor in a Mini-Series Award on the 2012 MBC Drama Awards. He made his movie debut with the film "Haemoo" or "Sea Fog" on 2014, for which he received great phrasing and won Best New Actor award on several award shows (the 51st Grand Bell Awards, 51st Baeksang Arts Awards, the 35th Blue Dragon Awards, the 10th  Max Movie Awards, 6th KOFRA Film Awards,the 34th Korean Association of Film Critics Awards, the 15th Busan International Film Festival, and on the 4th SACF Beautiful Artists Awards). His last drama appearance was on "The Girl Who Sees Smells" based on a webtoon with the same title, he worked alongside Shin Se Kyung and Min Nam Koong. For the drama he won Top Excellence Award, Actor in a Miniseries on the 23rd SBS Drama Awards. Aside of his acting career, the legal battle between JYJ and SM ended on 2012, but it was not until 2016 that the group could be on a TV Show. That is why they decide that before the enlistment of Yoochun and Jaejoong they would do a road trip, testing their variety knowledge and to reinforce their group unity, "JYJ Fruitful Trip" was aired on February of this year.

5. IU: Lee Ji Eun: May 16, 1993.
Singer, songwriter, and actress. Made her singing debut on 2008. On 2010 IU's popularity raised with the release of the song Nagging with Lim Seul Ong, member of the ballad group 2AM, the song then was used as the theme song for the second season of the show "We Got Married". The maintain her popularity she was cast on the variety/reality show, "Heroes" that aired from July 2010 to May 2011. On the same year she started in "Heroes" she was cast on the drama "Dream High", alongside idols/actors Suzy and Taecyeon, the drama was her acting debut. But it was the 2013 drama, "You're the Best, Lee Soon Shin" that marked her career as an actress. She was complimented for her interpretation on emotional scenes, and was nominated for "Excellence in Acting, Best Actress in a Serial Drama" on the KBS Awards. Later she was part of the cast of Bel Ami, with actor/singer Jang Geun Suk, even though the drama had bad ratings, IU got nominated for "Outstanding Korean Actress" at the 2014 Seoul International Drama Awards. Besides of writing songs for herself, she also has shared her talent for several drama soundtracks like "The Greatest Love", "You're the Best, Lee Soon Shin", "Bel Ami", and others. On October of 2015 it was revealed on a tabloid that the entertainer was on a relationship with the singer/songwriter Chang Kiha.

6. Eric Mun, Korean name Mun Jung Hyuk: February 16, 1979.
Eric spent his teenage years and high school years in California, where his family migrated. He then got back to South Korea on 1996 and joined SM Entertainment, on 1998 he made his debut on the group Shinhwa as leader and lead rapper. The group ended their contract with SM Entertainment on 2003 and then sing under a new company named Good Entertainment. His first acting job was a supporting role on the drama "Breathless", which opened the door for his acting career. But it was the drama "Phoenix" on 2004 that catapulted his career as an actor, with the outstanding achievements with viewership, he won Best New Actor and Popularity Award on the 2004 MBC Drama Awards. On December 10, 2004, Shinhwa won the Daesang for Best Artist of the Year at the Seoul Gayo Daesang Awards with their album "Brand New", it was their first award. Eric decided to give up his US citizenship to complete South Korea's mandatory service, which he served as an public service officer since October of 2008 and was discharged on October 2010. On 2011 Eric along with the other members of Shinhwa, decided to create their own company for the groups schedules, each member pursued their solo career on different agencies. His acting comeback was as an Hallyu star who is on mits of being kidnapped by a North Korea infiltrate, the drama is entitled Spy Myung Wol. After his acting comeback along with the other members of Shinhwa, they made their group come back with their 10th studio album. With the promotion of the group they started their own variety show named "Shinhwa Broadcast", which started all the members and had guest accomplishing some tasks. It was on 2014 that he came back to the acting scene with the drama "Discovery of Love", with actress Jung Yu Mi, reuniting the couple since the 2007 drama "Que Sera, Sera". On the same year he established a management agency with his manager of 10 years Lee Jong Hyun, E&J Entertainment. His latest work is the drama "Another Oh Hae Young" or "Oh Hae Young Again", with actress Seo Hyun Jin.

7. Yoona: Im Yoona, May 30,1990.
Member of the group sensation, Girls' Generation since 2007, Yoona is one of Korea's most acclaimed artist. Her acting career started on 2007 with small roles on dramas, it was in 2008 that she got her first leading role on the drama "You Are My Destiny". The drama was a turning point on her career, since she won two Best Actress Awards (2008 KBS Drama Awards and 45th Baeksang Arts Awards), and was well known for her character. Along her acting career she was well phrased because of her fast growing on the field, some fellow actors had said that she has matured real fast as an actor and can portray really good her characters, no matter of the success of the work itself. A great example of this matter is the 2012 drama "Love Rain", the drama had very low viewership on Korea but her acting received great reviews on the media. On April 2016 Yoona made her Chinese drama debut with the novel based drama "God of War, Zhao Yun". Aside singing and acting she has appeared on various variety shows, she was a fixed member of the show "Family Outing 2" on 2010. With the program came a lot of speculations regarding her relationship with Ok Taecyeon, since they had some kind of affectionate interactions on the show. Later on another show, "Strong Heart", there was speculations of a love triangle with MC Lee Seung Gi and Taecyeon. Years later (September 2013) it was revealed that Lee Seung Gi and Yoona where on a relationship, which ended on August of 2015. This year she landed a supporting role on the movie Cooperation, with actor Hyun Bin, a North Korea themed movie.

8. Lee Seung Gi: January 13, 1987.
First known as the Ballad Prince, Lee Seung Gi made his singing debut on 2004. The he entered the variety world with the show "1 Night 2 Days" from 2007 to 2012. He also was MC on the show "Strong Heart" from 2009 to 2012, alongside TV personality Kang Ho Dong at the beginning and then alone. On 2009 he made his acting break through with the drama "Brilliant Legacy", for which he received Excellence in Acting Award, Top 10 Stars Award and the Best Couple Award with Han Hyo-joo in the 2009 SBS Drama Awards, awards that he consecutively received with actress Shin Mina for the drama "My Girlfriend is a Nine Tailed Fox" on 2010. For the 2013 fantasy drama, Gu Family Book, the production stayed on top of the viewing listings for their time slot. He then started alongside Cha Seung Won and Go Ara on the 2014 drama "You're All Surrounded", for which he received a lot of compliments for his great acting skills. It was on 2014 that he made his movie debut with the movie Love Forecast, with actress Moon Chae Won. Before his enlistment he went on a trip with the former members of "1 Night 2 Days" for a show named "Journey to the West".

9. Seo Hyun Jin: February 27, 1985.
Seo Hyun-jin debuted as the lead vocalist of kpop girl group MILK in 2001. However, the girl group soon fell by the wayside due to fierce competition among manufactured bands, which led to one of the members quitting before the outfit completely disbanded in 2003. She attended Dongduk University on the Applied Music Major, still pursuing her singing career, as a solo artist she participated on some soundtracks and SM Town projects. When she still was part of SM Entertainment she made her acting debut with musicals and then decided to continue on acting. Then she started on the drama "Dating on Earth", alongside label mates TVXQ (they were known back then as DBSK), later on it was released as a movie. The character that she finds more true to herself is the foodie freelance writer, Beak Soo Ji on the second season of the drama "Let's Eat". Her latest work is the romance/comedy drama "Another Oh Hae Young" or "Oh Hae Young Again", alongside Eric Mun.

10. Seo In Guk: October 23, 1987.
He participated on a singing show on 2009, Superstar K, where he won and made his debut. After the hectic agenda that followed being the winner of the singing show, on 2012 he made his acting debut on a supporting role on the drama "Love Rain", alongside Girls' Generation's Yoona and actor/singer Jang Geun Suk. On the same year he got his first leading role on a drama, "Replay 1997", the first edition of the Replay series from tvn. The drama was well received and good phrased by the audience and critics, which helped him get a good number of awards alongside the female lead Jung Eun-jin, from the kpop group APink. On October of 2013 Seo started on his first film, "No Breathing", which tells the story of two swimmers and they rivalry. The film leads are Lee Jong Suk and Kwon Yuri, along Seo. His current work is the police drama, "Police Unit 38" or "38 Task Force", which brings together criminals and police to catch tax evaders.
